Course Overview

We recommend that Richmond School of Business (RSB) BSB80515 – Graduate Certificate of Management (Learning) course for business professionals who are looking to further develop their knowledge and skills. They might undertake this course with aim to achieve success in areas such as professional development, sustainability practices, employee selection and business risks.

Conversely, it may also apply to those with little or no vocational experience, but who possess sound theoretical business skills and knowledge that they would like to develop in order to create further educational and employment opportunities.

This course aims to develop knowledge of business functions by explaining and drawing on modern practices and methods to achieve business objectives. It has a holistic approach to the role of the business environment within industry and society and promotes the ability to identify factors that impact most on efficient business operations.

Who Should Undertake This Qualification

This qualification is aimed at students who would like to enhance their skills and knowledge to create further educational and employment opportunities for themselves.

Target Group 1

The first target group for this qualification is for existing business professionals requiring a formal qualification through recognition of prior learning. This group of candidates will normally consist of:

  • Senior Administrator
  • Senior Executive
  • General Manager
  • Area Manager

Target Group 2

This group of candidates will normally consist of:

  • People looking for a career change
  • People who need this qualification for employment purposes
  • People seeking a formal qualification
  • People with some business experience seeking a formal qualification
  • People taking on an executive role within their organisation and seeking a formal qualification

Student Entry Requirements

RSB will provide BSB80515 – Graduate Certificate of Management (Learning) program to students who have industry experience, with or without a qualification, and to those who wish to obtain a management qualification for employment purposes. However, students must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age;
  • Have successfully completed the BSB61015 Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management (or equivalent) or a bachelor degree (or equivalent);
  • Participate in a course entry interview to determine suitability for the course and student needs (if required);
  • People of mature age (over 21) who have not completed Year 12 will be considered for enrolment in this course. Their eligibility will be assessed on a case by case basis considering their work experience and aptitude. 

Mature age students will also be considered without the minimum education requirements but with relevant work experience within chosen area of study and a demonstrated capacity to meet course requirements.

International students must:

  • Have a valid IELTS* score of 5.5 or equivalent. English language competence can also be demonstrated through documented evidence of any of the following:
  • Studied for 5 years in an English-speaking country; or
  • Completed at least 6 months of a Certificate IV level course in an Australian RTO; or
  • Successful completion of an English Placement Test.

Other English language tests such as PTE and TOEFL will be accepted.  Students are required to provide their results of other English language tests for confirmation of their equivalence to IELTS 5.5.
Students must show certified proof of their proficiency or proof of having passed an appropriate English Language Test within the last two years.

Technology Literacy Requirements:

All students entering BSB80515 – Graduate Certificate of Management (Learning) are expected to:

  • Have the ability to produce and present high-level word-processed documents/reports of several pages.
  • Have the ability to obtain, interpret, evaluate and present information from a variety of sources (reading or the internet or via other assistive technology);
  • Have the ability to analyze, research and provide statistical data based on specific business trends.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy

The students will also be required to undertake an LLN test to identify if they will require additional learning support and if the identified level of additional support is within RSB capabilities to deliver. Based on the group of students that this course is designed for all are expected to have high- level of LLN capabilities.

On the basis of the individual’s LLN test outcomes, the School will arrange appropriate learner support in the following areas:

  • Language
  • Literacy
  • Numeracy

Support from Trainers / Assessors

Each enrolled student will have access to trainer / assessor support. Trainers / assessors can be contacted by telephone and email during business hours. There is no additional cost to chat with a trainer or assessor. All of our trainers and assessors are passionate industry experts who are available to guide you through your learning experience.

Student Support Services Department

Richmond School of Business has a dedicated Student Support Services Department which provides administrative support to enrolled students (e.g. how to log into the online learning system, etc.).

Student Welfare

RSB is committed to the academic success and emotional wellbeing of its students. RSB student support staff, Academic Manager and the Principal will offer initial student welfare advice. For students needing professional counselling, RSB has contracted an external qualified Student Welfare Counsellor, Mrs Judith Bowler. RSB Principal may refer students to Mrs Bowler for counselling/welfare advice, if/when required.

RSB will pay for the first consultation. Subsequent consultation charges will be borne by the student.

Unique Student Identifier

Each student must provide their USI (Unique Student Identifier) before they are to commence their studies. If you do not have a USI, you can create one at:

RSB will assist students to create their USI if required. Students must contact or the RSB Reception Desk at +61 28844 1000 if they face any challenges with creating their USI.

Assessment Overview

Each unit comprises of assessment tasks such as theoretical questioning, Project (Contains case study and written report), Applied questions, presentations and Role play must be completed in full before being submitted for marking. Assessments for qualifications are competency based, which means students are assessed against the unit of competency (unit) requirements.

Assessment marking system:

  • Competent (C) result: the student’s submitted work satisfies the learning requirements and all competency standards for the unit (in accordance with the National Register
  • Not Yet Competent (NYC) result: the student’s submitted work does not demonstrate their understanding of all competency standards in the unit. If a student receives a ‘Not Yet Competent’ outcome, he or she will receive written feedback from a trainer/assessor, clearly outlining where the gaps are. The student will then be required to rectify these gaps and re-submit their assessment for marking.

Once a student receives a satisfactory result for all required assessment tasks a competent (C) outcome will be awarded for the entire unit. The student must demonstrate their understanding of all competency standards in each unit before receiving a competent outcome.

Students have three (3) attempts to demonstrate competency, otherwise a unit re-enrolment fee applies (please see fee schedule contained in the Student Handbook).

Unit of Competency

Upon successful completion of this unit, students are expected to have learnt:

  • How to determine strategic change requirements and opportunities;
  • How to develop, implement and evaluate change management strategies;
  • How to take responsibilities that extend across the organisation or across significant parts of a large organisation;
  • How to achieve structured approach to change management and organisational knowledge.

Upon successful completion of this unit, students are expected to have learnt:

  • How to analyse and improve personal leadership style and professional competence and to lead organisational transformation and learning for strategic outcomes;
  • Leading transformational practices, cultivating collaborative practices;
  • Completing ongoing professional development; 
  • Providing strategic leadership in a dynamic context;
  • How to use cognitive and creative skills to review, critically analyse, consolidate and synthesise knowledge, in order to generate ideas and provide solutions to complex problems;
  • How to use communication skills to demonstrate their understanding of theoretical concepts and to transfer knowledge and ideas to others.

Upon successful completion of this unit, students are expected to have learnt:

  • How to provide professional leadership in improving organisational learning, and the quality of training and assessment products and services;
  • Leading strategy formation; designing, developing and implementing an organisational learning strategy; and reviewing and improving overall organisational learning and development;
  • How to build capabilities and contribute to organisational strategies, business plans, goals and values.

Upon successful completion of this unit, students are expected to have learnt:

  • How to influence others;
  • Cultivating new and existing partnerships;
  • Establishing positive collaborative relationships;
  • Leading the establishment of a partnership program; 
  • Establishing reporting mechanisms;
  • How to use cognitive and creative skills to review, critically analyse, consolidate and synthesise knowledge, in order to generate ideas and provide solutions to complex problems;
  • How to use communication skills to demonstrate their understanding of theoretical concepts and to transfer knowledge and ideas to others.

Learner Resources

RSB provides BSB80515 – Graduate Certificate of Management (Learning) students with access to a wide range of learning resources including Learner’s Guide or Student Workbook, access to ‘Handout’ folders in the Student online portal, which contains handouts under each of the unit’s assessment resources. Some of those resources have been developed in-house whereas most learning resources have been purchased from reputable resource providers available in the market. All students have the opportunity to obtain the hard copies of available resources, should they desire.
